Main Components

  1. Motherboard – the flat board onto which everything fits, includes circuitry and various slots for various components.
  2. CPU (central processing unit) – the main component which allows the computer to process information, effectively the machine’s brain.
  3. RAM (random access memory) – another vital part which allows the computer to process data.
  4. Hard drive – the device that stores the computer’s information.
  5. Graphics card – processes data which is sent to the computer screen.

Peripherals

  1. Screen – provides a visual display of what the computer is doing.
  2. Keyboard – allows a human operator to put data into the computer
  3. Mouse – assists a human operator to put data into the computer
  4. Printer – creates hard copies of information processed in the computer
  5. Cameras – captures visual information which can be transferred to a computer.
  6. Scanner – allows copies of paper based information to be stored on the computer.
